Rainbow Bridge Horses

This page is to show and remember all the horses we have lost along the way.

Jack

Outback Storm (Jack) was a 9yr Thoroughbred Gelding that was surrendered after his owner could not get weight on him. He was then adopted by a lovely family, however, not long after, he went down with a joint infection and laminitis caused by an abscess during the 2022 floods. Due to this, he was humanely euthanised as there was nothing that could be done without prolonging the pain. He was an absolute pleasure to have known.

Toffee

Toffee was a young unhandled stock horse mare that was rescued from the Laidley sales 3 months pregnant and emaciated. She was given hernia surgery which went very well. However, only two days later she passed away due to a suspected snake bite. She was only with us for a short time sadly.

Solarflare

Solarflare was a sweet 17hh Warmblood mare who was surrendered after her owners fell upon hard times. She only had one eye due to an injury and a bad hip which made her unrideable. She was adopted out as a companion and was living her best life in a herd of horses. We visited Solar semi-regularly and loved to see her. Sadly after moving properties, she was found deceased at her new place of residence. The cause of death is still unknown. Fly high Solarflare.

Jasmine

Jasmine was one of our personal horses who was euthanised at the age of 26yrs in 2022. She was found lying down in the paddock which is very unusual for her. After a vet visit and blood tests, it was found her blood was not clotting. It is suspected to be caused by a snake bite. Although she seemed to be fighting well, she developed severe colic and was laid to rest. She will be dearly missed and has taught me so much.

Benny

Benny was a 3yr Anglo Arab gelding rescued from the Laidley sales. He was then rehomed by his old owners to someone who could not care for his feet. He ended up coming here and x-rays were taken. It showed a severe club foot with rotation, abnormalities and resorption. He was given a short time to be a horse again and enjoy life until the decision was made to euthanise based on quality of life. He was a sweet and kind boy who didn't deserve what happened.

Bryan

Bryan was a 28yr Appaloosa gelding found abandoned in a state forest severely malnourished. Bryan was found in February 2021, but despite every effort, Bryan failed to gain weight. Unfortunately, Bryan went down a few months later, and the decision was made to euthanise him. The team of vets believed he had internal cancer. Bryan was shown nothing but kindness in his last few months and it is sad to see such a beautiful horse dumped rather than giving him a peaceful end.

Squid

Squid was a 3.5-year Warmblood gelding who was only here for 2 weeks. He was dumped at the July 2023 Gympie sales due to lameness and his owners trying to make a quick buck. He was purchased by a young girl and, long story short, came here. The vet came out to do a lameness exam, nerve blocks and x-rays, and it confirmed what we already thought. He had severe damage to the joint and bad osteoarthritis from an old injury (wire or puncture). Euthanasia was recommended as he would not be sound or pain-free. This is another case where his previous owners failed him, knowing he was lame and decided to make money instead of giving him the last act of kindness. RIP Squid.
